Trashman Underwater - Clean the Seas Game

Game Screenshot

In this mobile game you swim in the sea and collect trash. The pace of the game is nice and calm and no one gets killed. However, there are sea animals, like sea horses, sharks and puffer fishes that should be left alone. And the garbage bag must be kept safe. Do not let it hit the walls. Minimap is "for sure the most important item in the game" some of the players say. You may find also other items like drill, "bottle of Octopuses' ink" or "bottle of fireflies". They help you when you dive through clean, dark and toxic levels.

According to Wikipedia 8.8 million metric tons of plastic waste are dumped in the world's oceans each year. And that is only plastic waste. In addition to that a lot of other stuff ends, delibebrately or accidentally into oceans. In addition to being unsightly, it can pose a serious threat to marine life. If you want to eat seafood in the future as well environmental protection of the seas is important.

This is just a game but let's start to clean seas and fight 4 oceans!

Parent's Guide

This game is planned to be suitable for kids, I would say starting from 4 years old. The are a couple of "philosophical" decisions behind some elements of the game:

  • no one gets killed or shot and the main purpose of the game is not to hurt anyone - not even animals. Yes, it is possible to distract sharks and other fish using electricity or "Octopuses' ink" but using those is not the main purpose of the game.
  • in this game the patience is clearly better alternative than just "rushing through" very often
  • and finally the animals and objects are more or less real-world things and the player can read a bit of information about the object. The aim is to trigger a bit thirst for knowledge.
Well, these are the aims and the road to success may be long. Any feedback is appreciated. If there are reasonable amount of usage I will add in-app-purchase to remove adds completely.

Story Behind the Game

A couple of years back my kids started to say: "Dad, you are a programmer, please create a game." I always said: "you know guys, it takes hundred and hundred of hours to create a proper game." But after a year or two listening and thinking of it I did spends tens of sleepless nights and created a game, using some of the drawings created by my kids. It was just a prototype but I did show it neighbour of mine who did work on gaming industry. And he said: "Hey, this is good, you should finalize it".

So I started to think that may be I could create a real game, in production. I did establish one man company, did take a well paid programmer/consultant job for a couple of years and saved money for my company. About a year ago I did reduce other things to minimum and started to work almost full time on the game. And Trashman Underwater is the result.

Like mentioned in the parent's guide above the game tries to be a game but at the same time to teach something. Of course one goal is to raise knowledge of the state of the environment and perhaps rise a bit of interest in environmental protection.

Let's hope this is only the beginning. The aim is to create more levels, or let's say game modes into the Trashman Underwater. The next ones will be probably called "Hunt" and "Tag". In the first one the player would escape the sharks in a relatively narrow cave and of course at the same time would need to collect all the trash. And in the second one you would play old game tag with all the animals of the sea. And may be the Trashman will go also into the jungle and space, but let's see...
